Arsene Wenger hits back at claims Giroud’s wife tanked Everton move

Not true
Olivier Giroud has been hitting the headlines this week, partly because of his injury and partly because his potential move to Everton has been up for discussion once again.
The forward nearly went to the Merseyside club in the summer, but pulled out of a deal and according to new Everton boss Sam Allardyce, it’s because of his wife and her preference to stay living in London.
However, now Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has hit back and claimed that he could have moved to the club and remained down south – and that was not the reason.
Giroud has of course been a key player for Arsenal this season, and has certainly made the difference between losing and winning games when coming off the bench, and having him injured for the festive period has been a loss for the club – something Wenger is aware of.
?No, I don?t think so,? The Echo report Wenger said. ?He could have joined Everton and stayed basically in London.
?I don?t think that was the problem.?
Injured
The injury to Giroud is one thing, but more worrying for Wenger is the fact that he may look to leave the club on a permanent basis come the summer.
Wenger has fought to keep Giroud at the club this winter, and his injury has certainly helped matters there, but in terms of his long term future, the forward will not want to be pushed down the pecking order even further should the Gunners buy again in the summer and could look to leave.
Assurances over his playing time would go a long way to helping, and certainly convince the player to stay, but a return home to France could be on the cards for his young family if another club in the Premier League doesn’t present itself.
