Kai Havertz should have been sent off in Arsenal’s last Premier League match, a 2-1 win over Brentford, 21 minutes before his late winner against the Bees.
Declan Rice gave Arsenal a 1-0 lead in the clash at the Emirates on March 9 and after Yoane Wissa levelled things up, Havertz netted an 87th-minute winner.
That goal sent Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table and secured what could end up being a massive three points in the top-flight title race.
But it has now emerged that Havertz should not have even been on the pitch to score the winner.
Two years ago, the Premier League set up an independent Key Match Incidents panel (KMI panel), which assesses all the big decisions made by referees.
The KMI panel have ruled that Havertz should have been shown a second yellow card for ‘a clear act of simulation’ in the 66th minute.
After all five members of the panel unanimously agreed, their conclusions read: ‘Havertz is already falling when the defender makes contact, brushing Havertz?s hip.
