Jurgen Klopp believes Arsenal’s defensive solidity with William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes has been a key difference in the Premier League title race following Liverpool’s 2-0 defeat to Everton on Wednesday evening.
Liverpool have lost ground on Premier League leaders Arsenal as the loss at Goodison Park has left them three points behind Mikel Arteta’s side and only one ahead of Manchester City, who have played two fewer games.
The defeat to Everton means Liverpool have now registered just two wins in their last six matches in all competitions – a run of form which has also seen them crash out of the Europa League to Atalanta.
But Klopp believes Liverpool’s injuries have been a key factor behind their run of results both domestically and in Europe.
When asked for the reasons behind Liverpool’s inconsistency in recent weeks after the loss to Merseyside rivals Everton, Klopp replied: ‘There are different aspects, definitely.
‘Players who played all the games are not that fresh, but that is for other teams the same. I don?t want to use that as an excuse, really, as long as the boys are fit, not injured, that helps.
‘Let me say, Gabriel and [William] Saliba played all the games for Arsenal. Did they play a little bit less than us" I don?t even know 100 per cent but they played a lot of games as well.
