Manchester City hero Micah Richards has explained why he was left frustrated after Arsenal beat Porto on penalties in the Champions League.
The Gunners needed a penalty shootout to eliminate their Portuguese opponents and book their spot in the last eight of the European competition on Tuesday.
Richards, who spent 10 years at Arsenal’s top-flight title rivals City between 2005 and 2015 and helped the club land a Premier League trophy and FA Cup, was working as a pundit for CBS Sports for the second-leg clash at the Emirates.
Speaking to Alan Shearer on The Rest Is Football podcast on Thursday, Richards has outlined why he was irked by the match going the full distance.
‘Leandro Trossard gets the goal and then it goes to extra-time,’ Richards said. ‘I didn’t want extra-time, I’ll be honest with you.
‘I was knackered by that time. I wanted to get away early. We were on air half-an-hour earlier [than usual].
‘We were soaking it in, it was [fellow pundit] Thierry Henry’s homecoming and all that. We were on air for an hour-and-a-half before the game.
