Spanish clubs could be heading to the United States La Liga president Javier Tebas has confirmed plans to play La Liga matches abroad in the not too distant future.
Tebas says he?s hoping games could be played in the United States within two years and claims other leagues are also planning to move domestic fixtures overseas.
?I think it could be in the 2025-26 season, but La Liga will play official matches abroad,? he told Spanish newspaper Expansion. ?An official match in the U.S. will strengthen our position in the North American market, which is the second market for La Liga after Spain.
?Other very competitive leagues are coming so we cannot always do the same thing, but we cannot allow them to overtake us.?
There were plans back in 2018 to hold a league clash between Barcelona and Girona in Miami which ultimately fell through. We?ll have to wait and see if this is something that will now materialise in the future.
