Bayern Munich?s Thomas Tuchel vows to play Thomas Müller against Real Madrid

Bayern will need Müller?s special set of skills to defeat Los Blancos. Thomas Müller was forced to nervously watch from the sidelines as Bayern Munich eked out the 1-0 quarterfinal victory over Arsenal on Wednesday night. Thomas Tuchel?s usage of Raphaël Guerreiro on the left flank, along with some solid play by Noussair Mazraoui, prevented Bukayo Saka and the Gunners from finding the back of the net.
The move worked out and Bayern find themselves headed to the semifinal to face the Champions League kings, Real Madrid. Real Madrid (14) have won twice as many Champions League titles than the number two team on the all-time list, AC Milan. Bayern is tied with Liverpool for the third place slot with six trophies. According to a report from Bild, Tuchel has publicly guaranteed that Müller will appear in the two-leg semifinal. This makes a lot of sense, given Müller?s unique abilities to create space and be a leader on the pitch. It?s unclear whether he?ll start or come off the bench. Either way, Tuchel will need another masterful game plan to defeat Carlo Ancelotti.
Müller is chasing his own Champions League records. He sits only two appearances behind Xavi for the fifth most all time. Xavi also played his entire team for a single club, Barcelona.
