He started somewhat well following his blockbuster ?49 million move from Manchester City in the summer of 2020, but it soon became apparent that he wasn?t worth the wages the club was paying him.
Sané seemed to have an aversion to defending (an area of his game where he has since worked hard to improve), and his patchy form didn?t warrant superstar status. Because of this, other players such as Serge Gnabry felt they were worth more than what they were being paid. The quality gap simply didn?t match the wage gap between the players.
Four years on, and the club has come to the point where they either need to extend Sané?s contract or risk losing him for a reduced fee, or possibly even for free. Yes, the player has been in inconsistent form for the entirety of his time at the club, but his Hinrunde performances could?ve had fans believing he?s the best player in the world. His displays in the latter half of the season haven?t quite been the same, but he was of crucial importance against Arsenal in the Champions League, making a brilliant run and winning the Bavarians a penalty in the first leg.
