January could be wild for Bayern Munich... Bayern leading on Varane" (Sport Mole)
As January draws near, reports are circulating that Bayern Munich is in pole position to land Manchester United defender Raphaël Varane:
Bayern Munich are reportedly leading the race for Manchester United centre-back Raphael Varane.
According to Football Insider, Bayern are currently in pole position to secure his signature, with the Bundesliga giants expected to make an offer during the January transfer window. The report claims that the German side are determined to sign a new centre-back in January, as Kim Min-jae is heading to the Asian Cup to represent South Korea.
Man United have the option to activate an additional 12 months in Varane?s deal and that could occur if they are planning to sell him during next summer?s transfer window. As it stands, Varane, who is set to retain his spot in the Red Devils side for Saturday?s Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest, would be free to speak to foreign clubs in January over a possible pre-contract.
It still feels like getting Varane would be a longshot for Bayern Munich. Whatever happens in January, the team does need some depth on the backline.
