Looking Around the League: Leverkusen Continue the Impossible

The Bundesliga continues to barrel towards its conclusion as teams across the league settle into their final spots on the table. Four of the league?s top five teams played against each other this past Matchday and the league?s top four will almost certainty included Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich, VfB Stuttgart, and RB Leipzig. Borussia Dortmund are on the outside looking in but will sleep comfortably knowing that a 5th place Champions League spot is likely heading to the Bundesliga.
Despite already being crowned Bundesliga champions, Bayer Leverkusen continue their march towards an unbeaten season. VfB Stuttgart were the challengers for Bayer Leverkusen this weekend and goals from Chris Fuhrich and Deniz Undav gave visiting Stuttgart a two goal lead. Amine Adli quickly answered for the hosts but they once again left it late to maintain their record. A foul by Stuttgart?s Pascal Stenzel in the 96th minute gave Leverkusen a freekick in Stuttgart?s final third and, for what feels like the millionth time this season, the in-swinging kick found its way to a Leverkusen player who smashed it into the back of the net. Play ended 2-2 and the impossible is feeling very plausible for Xabi Alonso?s Leverkusen. Their last three Bundesliga games see them play Eintracht Frankfurt, VfL Bochum, and Augsburg.
Here?s how Matchday 31 played out over the weekend.
