Post-Match Reaction: The Kids (and Reus) Blow Out Augsburg

Maybe Dortmund?s future is bright after all" They did it! Dortmund stayed healthy!
Okay, they did a bit more than stay healthy. It was a game that ultimately doesn?t matter in the grand scheme of things, but was both thoroughly entertaining, and just might Dortmund fans a bit of hope for the future of the club. With an imposing Champions League semifinal against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, Edin Terzic rotated just about every expected starter, so it was up to a mix of bench players and some plucky kids to carry the fight to FC Augsburg.
In the end, not only did they take the fight to them, but they put them to the sword. Within just over half an hour, Dortmund?s B-team had put four past Augsburg, and the game was effectively out of reach, a goal against and a few defensive hiccups aside. The star of the show was the young Kjell Wätjen, making his senior Bundesliga debut, operating in a double pivot in central midfield with Felix Nmecha and Marco Reus further up. It?s kind of frustrating that one of the most dominant wins of the season came in an essentially meaningless game in which most of our usual starting XI was on the bench, but what can you do. If I were head coach and I realized that a team filled almost exclusively with players that I had benched put together such a good performance, I would probably take notes and maybe do a little introspection.
I?m sorry. I should really celebrate such a win....
