Paper Talk: Fred bid imminent; Liverpool definitely in for £40m Mahrez

Liverpool are talking to Riyad Mahrez over a January transfer, while an England U21 attacking midfielder is on the radar of Tottenham and Liverpool, all in today’s papers.
LIVERPOOL ARE CHASING MAHREZ
Sources close to Riyad Mahrez have told the Daily Express that the Leicester man is in talks with Liverpool.
“Terms of a transfer” are being discussed, according to the exclusive, despite denials by several sources over the weekend.
beIN Sports France claimed over the weekend that Mahrez, 26, was having a medical at Anfield, but that talk was shot down by Sky Sports and several other English outlets, who are understood to have been told by Liverpool the deal was not happening.
The Algerian winger is though on the Reds? wish-list of signings to replace Philippe Coutinho, although bringing forward a deal to sign Naby Keita is a priority.
Mahrez appeared certain to leave Leicester in the summer, but the Foxes? desire to hold out for a £40million asking price scared off the likes of Roma and Arsenal, who were both sniffing round the player.
To his credit, Mahrez simply got in with the business of playing football and kept his nose clean as far as his wishes to leave the King Power Stadium was concerned.
And that attitude – as well as the Algerian?s dazzling abilities – are thought to have caught Jurgen Klopp?s eye.
