A good week for the under-21s
The under-21s remain sixth in the Professional Development League but it?s been a good week for Andy Farrell?s team with two wins in league and cup which have seen us score seven goals.
A week ago today we beat Peterborough 4-0 in the league at Gawthorpe and just three days ago, again at Gawthorpe, we beat Accrington 3-1 in the Central League Cup. Five of those goals came from recent signings too. Mike O?Neill scored in the league game in which Joe Bevan netted twice and Tommy McDermott was on the mark twice in the cup game.
Just three other league games were played in the north group and they all involved one of the Sheffield clubs. Both played at Fleetwood with Wednesday going down to defeat there last Friday and Sheffield United held to a draw on Tuesday. Wednesday did recover to win at Barnsley in the other game played. Sheffield United closed the gap on leaders Birmingham to four points and they have two games in hand, but Wednesday are now just two further points behind their local rivals.
Although we sit seventh, and are eight points behind sixth place Fleetwood, our next opponents, all of the teams above us have played at least four games more while leaders Birmingham have played seven games more than us.
