Cup semi-final day for the under-21s
Having won all four group games against Blackburn, Preston, Accrington and Wrexham in the Central League Cup group games, the under-21s will be looking to reach a second cup final of the season this afternoon.
Already in the Lancashire Senior Cup final, with the game against Barrow, a repeat of last season?s final, again to be played early in the following, 2024/25, season, we now face Stockport this afternoon in the semi-final of the Central League Cup.
We coasted through the group, beating Blackburn 2-0, Preston 4-0, Accrington 3-1 and Wrexham 3-0 with eleven different players on the scoresheet, ten of them scoring once and Tommy McDermott scoring the first two in the win against Accrington.
Stockport edged Huddersfield in their group by the narrowest of margins. Both won two and drew two of their four games with Stockport?s goal difference of plus six just one better than Huddersfield?s. The draw between the two ended in a 2-2 draw as did Stockport?s game against Bolton with wins against Salford (4-0) and Rotherham (3-1) taking them through. The winners today will play the final, which is scheduled for Sunday, 5th May, against Derby or Wigan and by the time we kick off we should know which of those two teams have gone through with them kicking off at 11 a.m.
Our game comes two hours later at 1 p.m. and will be played at Gawthorpe with supporters able to attend.
