Draw takes youths up to third
Our under-18s kicked off last Saturday against Sheffield Wednesday with the two teams on the same number of points with the same goal difference which left us above them on goals scored.
Nothing has changed in that respect. Wednesday went 1-0 up in the first minute at Gawthorpe but a Callum West penalty right on half time levelled things. The game ended 1-1 which leaves us both still separated by goals scored although both of us have moved up a place in the table.
The result has taken both of us up a place in the table to third and fourth respectively although Wednesday do have three games in hand on us. We?ve both moved up because Crewe, who had kicked off the day in third place, were beaten by leaders Birmingham.
Second place Barnsley had their game at Wigan called off and that has now taken us to within a point of them although they have played four games less than us. Leaders Birmingham have played more games than any of us but they now have a sixteen point lead over Barnsley which would leave Barnsley needing to win just about all of their games in hand to get anywhere close. In the other game played in the north group, Sheffield United and Hull drew with the game between Fleetwood and Peterborough, scheduled for last Friday, also called off.
There was a shock for south group leaders Bristol City who were beaten by third place Cardiff. Almost unbeatable until the new year, they?ve now been beaten four times in seven games in 2024 and have now seen their lead at the top...
