Late but the best was still to come

When Burnley kicked off their League Cup tie against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground last night, I was one of a group of Burnley fans travelling by coach to the game who was still trapped in a long, long queue on the M1.
We?d set off in more than good time from Burnley and there seemed little to concern us even though we knew the M1 was closed just past our exit. Unfortunately, some three miles from that exit we came to a virtual halt.
Initially, we thought we might have to pick up the team news while still on the coach, then there was the concern it was going to be a late arrival. Eventually, we made it during the half time interval but that was only because of two decisive factors.
One of the passengers amazingly had a contact in Nottingham Police and he arranged for an escort once off the motorway. That was all well and good, but we?d now reached the point where it was possible that we?d still be stuck there at the final whistle. Then, miraculously, the motorway was re-opened, we moved, we got the escort and arrived at the City Ground just a few minutes before the home fans were ready to sing ?Mull of Kintyre? to welcome the players back for the second half.
