Saturday lunch at Leyland for the under-21s
Having won at Accrington during the week in the semi-final of the Lancashire Senior Cup, it is back to league action for the under-21s today with a home game against Hull City at Leyland.
Andy Farrell?s new look team go into the game in sparkling form having won their last four games in league and cup with only one defeat in eleven games since the 2-1 home Premier League Cup loss against Leicester in December.
We are currently sat in the middle of the table in sixth place with 25 points from our fifteen games. We won?t go up or down this week whatever the result; we are seven points behind Barnsley in fifth place while Coventry in seventh are four points behind.
With games in hand on every team, Hull are the closest in terms of games played with one more than us. They are currently ninth in the league with seventeen points. They have won five of their games in the league although four of those had come by mid-October. Their most recent win was a surprise 2-1 victory at Sheffield Wednesday a week and a half ago. They?ve been beaten at home against Fleetwood in their one game since. We will be looking for our first ever point in this particular home fixture. In 2017/18, our first season in the Professional Development League, we were beaten 2-1 with Ntumba Massanka scoring our goal. We lost 3-0 in the following season and on our return to the league last season we fell to a big 6-0 defeat.
