Top two clash in under-21 north and south groups
We are into the second week of March and the under-21s are still in two cup competitions with half of their league fixtures still to be played.
Last Friday, the late postponement of the home game against Coventry didn?t do too much damage with only four games played over the week in the north group and it started with Sheffield Wednesday winning at Crewe to move above their neighbours Sheffield United into second place.
Fleetwood won at Hull on the following day but the big game was that between the top at the start of the week with Sheffield United hosting leaders Birmingham. The game kicked off with Birmingham five points in front of the Blades although from three games more. The deadlock wasn?t broken until the 78th minute when substitute Billy Blacker, who had just come on, opened the scoring for Sheffield United. They added a second in stoppage time through Jay Tinsdale and the 2-0 win restores them as favourites for the title. There was one more game, a hastily rearranged game between Barnsley and Wigan yesterday afternoon that was won by Barnsley who are one place but now seven points ahead of us although that gap should be closed with our five games in hand.
Millwall beat Swansea 4-1 in the south group last Friday and that took them top, two points ahead of QPR. The two met on Tuesday and it went QPR?s way.
