Youths miss out on third place after Barnsley defeat
The under-18s were beaten 2-1 at Barnsley last Friday in the U18 Professional Development League when a win would have taken us into third place in the table, just one point behind Barnsley in second place.
That result meant we would drop a place in the table on the next day with the two teams directly below us, Crewe and Hull, facing each other. Crewe were behind us on goal difference with Hull a point behind and it was Hull who won the game to move ahead of us in the table.
Leaders Birmingham won again to remain thirteen points clear of Barnsley, although Barnsley have four games in hand, but there was a surprise for Sheffield Wednesday, who we would have passed on goal difference with a win. They were beaten 1-0 by Fleetwood, not once but twice. They lost the home game last Saturday and three days later were beaten by the same score at Fleetwood. Â Coventry won at Peterborough in the one other game played in the north group. Moving south, while there were away wins for Charlton, Swansea and Watford at Cardiff, Ipswich and Colchester respectively, it was the one other game that grabbed the headlines. QPR have had something of a torrid time defensively all season. Prior to Saturday, they?d conceded four goals three times and five goals twice. They?d also seen us score six times against them with Ipswich and Fleetwood beating them 7-0 and 9-0.
