At the weekend, we covered reports from Brazil which said Chelsea are interested in signing Pedro from Flamengo.
In surprising news, it was claimed that the Blues want a new striker in the summer and the 26-year-old is one of the names on their list.
As journalist Jorge Nicola now shares an update on the situation, he points out how difficult it would be for Chelsea to sign Pedro.
The reporter doesn’t seem to have his own information on this chase, and just explains that Flamengo have no intention to let the striker go in the summer.
The main reason for that is that their other star centre-forward, Gabriel Barbosa, has a contract expiring at the end of the year and is very likely to walk away for free.
That’s why the Rio de Janeiro side wouldn’t like to sell their other one. So they’re glad Pedro is protected by a ?100m release clause and would demand at least ?25m to negotiate his exit. That sounds like a lot of money for a player who’s turning 27 this summer, especially because he’s not proven in European football, after a disappointing time at Fiorentina.
Pedro is undoubtedly one of the great goal-scorers in Brazil, with 107 goals in 221 matches for Flamengo, but his age makes an expensive move to a top Premier League side quite unlikely, especially with Flamengo expected to be tough in negotiations.
