Chelsea are set to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace after activating a £35m release clause in his contract.
The Blues expressed interest in signing the France U21 star earlier in the summer but faced competition from Premier League champions Manchester City.
Chelsea’s spending since Todd Boehly purchased the club has raised eyebrows but the staggering investment has continued, with Moises Caicedo’s record-breaking £115m move to Stamford Bridge taking the club’s outlays this summer to almost £300m.
But Chelsea intend to bolster Mauricio Pochettino’s squad further before the summer transfer window closes and have activated a £35m buy-out clause for Olise, according to The Athletic.
Olise is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury he suffered during this summer’s European U21 Championship but Chelsea are nevertheless ready to sign him from Palace.
The 21-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season at Selhurst Park in 2022-23, winning the player’s player of the season and the club’s goal of the season awards.
With 11 assists, Olise became the first Crystal Palace player ever to claim 10 or more in a Premier League season, with his tally bettered by just three other players in the English top-flight.
