Liverpool have seen their opening offer for Arne Slot rejected by Feyenoord.
The Reds have made the Dutchman their first choice as they look to appoint a successor for Jurgen Klopp.
Slot is keen on a move to Anfield, and has requested to speak to the Reds.
But, while Feyenoord are sympathetic to his wishes, they want an acceptable compensation package.
Liverpool have moved quickly to appoint Slot and offered the Dutch club around £7.73m as compensation.
But the Athletic say this offer has been turned down and talks continue.

Liverpool made their approach for Slot last week, following Xabi Alonso’s decision to commit himself to Bayer Leverkusen next summer.
Slot’s current deal runs until 2026, meaning the Dutch club are in a strong position to demand significant compensation for their manager.
Feyenoord are 2nd in the league table this term.
Slot guided the club to their second league title in 20 years last season, with an exciting brand of football.
He turned down an approach from Tottenham last summer to replace Antonio Conte, preferring instead to remain in the Netherlands.
Liverpool will continue their due diligence over other candidates, but Slot remains their first choice.
Further talks are expected between Liverpool, Feyenoord and Slot on Wednesday.
