Michael Edwards will head up Liverpool’s post-Jurgen Klopp era after accepting an offer to return to the club.
Edwards left Anfield two years ago, when he abruptly quit as sporting director.
He was unhappy with his role at the club, and felt he needed more control in order to influence the Reds.
Edwards spent a decade at Anfield until his departure in 2022, and he played a pivotal role in signing the likes of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
He initially declined a request to return to the club after Klopp’s announcement in January that he would step down at the end of the season.
However, Edwards will now take up an influential role at Anfield that will see him practically control football operations and oversee the acquisition of a ‘sister club’.
‘Michael is one of the most formidable executive talents in world football and John (Henry), Tom (Werner), and I are absolutely thrilled to have secured his services for our business,? FSG president Mike Gordon said upon the announcement.
‘As an organisation we constantly strive for improvement in our football operation, whether that be identifying fresh opportunities externally or areas for enhancement internally, and there is no better person to lead that ongoing process.’
