Pep Guardiola has addressed his own uncertain Manchester City future in the wake of Jurgen Klopp’s shock decision to leave Liverpool.
The world of football was rocked on Friday morning when the long-serving Reds boss announced he would stand down at the end of the current season following nine trophy-laden years.
Klopp cited his diminishing energy levels as a major factor in determining a decision that he has managed to keep under wraps since November.
The German arrived in the Premier League just under 12 months before Guardiola’s appointment at City and the pair have shared in one of the most captivating rivalries in English football history.
Guardiola’s own City future has been a matter of conjecture in recent months given his own precarious contractual situation.
Speaking after last night’s dramatic FA Cup fourth round win over Tottenham, Guardiola was asked he’d considered following Klopp’s lead and said: ‘I’m fine.
‘I want to do it still for one more year, and maybe extend. I’m fine. I still try to manage. We can’t do more than last season but what is important is one step at a time.’
