Arsene Wenger has put a major stumbling block in the way of Alexis Sanchez’s proposed Arsenal exit.
Man Utd reportedly entered the race to sign Sanchez yesterday with The Guardian and Sky Sport Italia reporting Jose Mourinho had made a £25million bid for the Chile star.
United?s official response to that news has been ambiguous though.
Press Association Sport contacted both United and Arsenal, with the Red Devils saying they were ?not aware of any bid? for Sanchez while the Gunners declined to comment.
The 29-year-old former Barcelona forward is due to reach the end of his contract at the Emirates Stadium this summer and has been repeatedly linked with a January switch to Man City.
But Wenger has claimed Sanchez will not be going anywhere this month if Arsenal cannot find a replacement.
He was asked, “will Sanchez stay if Arsenal can?t find a replacement"£
“You summed it up very well,” replied Wenger, who refused to sanction Sanchez’s sale last summer because he could not get a replacement signed up. “Do we find exactly the same player" Certainly not. But there are always ways to find the balance.
“He is an exceptional player and if that happens, we must find a different balance in the team. I cannot tell you what I don?t know.
“I like to be a bit vague and use my experience to not talk about things I cannot back up.”
 
Wenger insists Arsenal should waive away the fee for Sanchez and says the forward should stay until the end of the season.
 
However, Mourinho?s United are said to be keen to snatch Sanchez from under City?s noses and when asked about that at Friday’s news conference Wenger claimed everything was up in the air.
“Nothing is really concrete at the moment. It is not that I don’t want to inform you, it is that I don’t want to give you the wrong information,” said Wenger.
