Sabitzer, signed on loan from Bayern Munich in January, had been enjoying his best spell of form since joining the club having scored twice in the Europa League quarter-final clash with Sevilla on Thursday.
United have been left reeling by a string of injury blows in recent weeks, losing Marcus Rashford in the 2-0 win over Everton this month.

With Scott McTominay, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia also missing the trip to Forest, ten Hag was not willing to take any more risks with Sabitzer.
