Gareth Bale has ‘shown he can’t play at Real Madrid,’ according to former Real player and manager, Mariano Garcia Remon.
The Welshman has endured a tough season at the Santiago Bernabeu, scoring just eight league goals in a season which was supposed to see him take over the mantle as Real’s main man following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure.
The La Liga giants have had a disappointing season all round, set to finish third in the table and without winning a trophy – a lack of form which has seen Zinedine Zidane return as manager.
Zidane and Bale had a fractured relationship during the Frenchman’s first spell at the club, and his return looked likely to signal the end of the Welshman’s stay in Madrid. Garcia Remon, who won six league titles with Real from 1972-80 and managed the club in 2004, has backed the 29-year-old to move on, saying that he has failed to live up to expectations.

‘Real Madrid’s major problem is that they have to assemble an almost entirely new squad,’ Garcia Remon told Radio MARCA.
‘Some of the players have had a very bad season and it’s shown that they can’t play here.
‘Bale is one of them as this year he was given the chance to succeed and become the main man, but he couldn’t take it.’
