Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund is desperate to join Manchester United but the club’s £60million asking price is putting the Red Devils off.
The 20-year-old Dane has been identified as a leading target by Erik ten Hag following the club’s acceptance that Harry Kane is out of reach.
Hojlund, a boyhood United fan, has been compared to Erling Haaland for his style of play and background.
While United are keen on signing Hojlund, they would like to add a more experienced striker alongside the Dane.
But Atalanta have set a £60m asking price for Hojlund, which would use up half of United’s £120m summer budget.

The Red Devils are unwilling to pay that much, and had hoped to sign the Denmark international for closer to £40m.
But Hojlund’s desire is clear, with Fabrizio Romano saying the Dane ‘really, really’ wants to move to Old Trafford.
United like Victor Osimhen but Napoli want around £130m for the Nigerian, while Spurs will not listen to offers for Kane.
With Ten Hag keen on signing a midfielder, defender and goalkeeper alongside a new striker this season, the club cannot use their entire budget on a forward.
