Sir Jim Ratcliffe intervenes over Scott McTominay’s future at Manchester United

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe will hand Scott McTominay a new contract after stepping in to ensure the midfielder remains at the club.
The Scotland international has been in fine form for the Red Devils this term, scoring nine goals in all competitions.
McTominay was close to leaving Old Trafford last summer, with West Ham interested in signing him to replace Declan Rice.
The midfielder’s status as an academy product is particularly valuable, as his departure would significantly free up space when it comes to complying with Profit and Sustainability Rules.
But McTominay wound up staying at the Theatre of Dreams after a move to east London fell through and he’s impressed Erik ten Hag this term with the manner in which he’s got his head down again.

Nevertheless, the Dutchman had been open to cashing in on McTominay this summer if it means freeing up space on his budget.
But the Daily Star says Ratcliffe will block his departure as he wants to hand McTominay a new deal.
The Scot, whose current deal runs until 2025, will get a boost on his £120,000-a-week deal.
Ratcliffe and his INEOS team feel McTominay is part of the club’s future and that he could thrive even more in the right sporting environment.
