We want the Old Jose Mourinho back

By Mark Weasley
Recently, Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho stated that he won?t celebrate most of his club?s goals after he was unmoved following Romelu Lukaku?s opener at The Hawthorns against West Brom last weekend. The 54 year old manager has not looked his exciting best in recent weeks, after the fallout of the Manchester derby backfired on him.
The former Chelsea handler took exception to the manner with which Manchester City players celebrated their 2-1 win at Old Trafford, claiming it was disrespectful on the part of The Citizens, who are now 11 points clear at the top of the table after just 18 matches.
When the self-acclaimed Special One arrived on English shores back in 2004, clean shaven and dark-haired, he came with a reputation of being a tactical genius and a man not afraid to make huge statements. Ever since the days of Brian Clough, the English football fraternity had not seen a manager that could make bold statements and back it up with results on the pitch.
Chelsea swept all opponents aside with relative ease in his first season, setting division records of 95 points and 15 goals conceded. Mourinho needs to find his old magic back, but as he stated recently that celebrating goals excessively at 1-0 was not normal, as there would still be a lot of football to be played, the feeling is that the pressure is finally getting to him.
Few would forget the manager that held football spellbound with his tactical superiority before a certain Pep Guardiola came around to spoil his party. The pragmatic style that used to work so effectively against difficult sides is not yielding major results anymore, so he needs to reinvent his philosophy to get his mojo back.
We need the Jose Mourinho that will say things without damming the consequences and match his claims with brilliant results on the pitch of play. It would be a shame to see Jose lose this title without a fight. Let the race begin.
