Anthony Gordon injury latest from Eddie Howe after Newcastle’s epic draw with Luton

Eddie Howe confirmed that Anthony Gordon twisted his ankle during Newcastle’s epic 4-4 draw with Luton on Saturday, although did not know how serious the injury is.
The wild match finished level, with both sides leading at different stages between Sean Longstaff opening the scoring on seven minutes and Harvey Barnes finishing it on 73.
Gordon started the game but was taken off at half-time as he felt he couldn’t continue, which Howe explained was due to an ankle problem.
‘It looked like he twisted his ankle, I wasn’t sure of the incident,’ said the Magpies boss.
‘I did not necessarily see the incident but he was in a lot of pain at half-time so he had to come off. No idea (how long).
‘He saw enough for him to come off, that was his decision and knew he could not continue. Obviously, we hope it is not bad but we will miss him.’
Barnes was returning from injury himself, making his first Premier League appearance since September as he came off the bench to score.

Callum Wilson also returned from injury to play his first match since December, and Howe admits he is frustrated to get players back only to lose another.
‘It seems like we get one back then lose another one,’ he said.
