A Carrow Road day of gold dust … one for the ages
For City fans, those 75 minutes between 2:30 and 3:45 yesterday will take some beating. At least for a week or two.
At 2:30, I joined the queue in the River End concourse to purchase refreshment. The big TV screen above me, it read, ‘CAR 0, IPS 1’
“Here we go again … squeezing out a win when they most need it .. b$!%@s.”.
The moans were audible as the clock ticked into injury time and, despite Cardiff piling on the pressure, the white shirts of Utopia held firm.
But five minutes into injury time those moans turned to cheers, loud ones, as Ryan Wintle rattled one in from close range.
“Wahoo … at least they’ve dropped two points.”
Grim faces as the cameras panned onto the massed ranks of the Suffolk Brethren. Kieran McKenna did that pointing at the iPad thing.
Eight minutes of injury time had been signalled but as the clock ticked 100, the concourse erupted when Callum O’Dowda volleyed that beauty in from a yard out.
Kieran again stared at the iPad. Face contorted. Even glummer expressions from the Brethren.
Then the final whistle.
“Get in … !”
Of course, it’s dangerous to get too excited in such moments as the reverse schadenfreude comes at you thick and fast in football, especially when you’re Norwich City, are on a good run of home form and are playing bottom-of-the-league opponents who have lost eight on the spin.
But … we know what happene...
