It?s only right to start with those three little words:
I was wrong.
November?s abject 3-1 defeat to the ten men of Blackburn at Carrow Road was a personal tipping point. Wagner had to go.
My issues with the club were (and largely remain) far wider than the head coach, but his position came to represent all that I perceived to be wrong at the club.
Webber?s man.
A lazy and lacklustre appointment, whose tactical deficiencies were consistently exposed, despite the individual efforts of a few key players.
I also took the club?s continued backing of their maligned head coach as a sign of weakness and misplaced loyalty. An acceptance of mediocrity and a belligerent ?f*** you? to those of us calling for change. His continued presence in the City dugout, signalled a relegation scrap, rather than a promotion push.
Or so I thought.
Ultimately, the decision to stick rather than twist has been vindicated. Those of us in ?the 20%? are obliged to either eat humble pie or remain silent and wait for the next bump in the road to provide an ?I told you so? moment.
I?ve chosen the former.
Wagner has delivered a staggering turnaround in results. One that deserves great credit and respect. Even his fiercest critics would struggle to argue that a replacement would have bettered the achievement.
Let?s not forget that Jonny and Josh, City?s most potent attacking threats, have been tag-teaming a spot on the physio?s bench for most of the campaign.
