The U21s have had a successful season from an attacking perspective, scoring 36 goals in the league, which makes them the sixth-highest scorers. One player who has contributed massively in that regard is Norfolk-born, Joe Duffy.
Across the season, Duffy has played mainly in two different positions – as an attacking midfielder and, in recent weeks, as a striker. Due to the progression of Ken Aboh and the recent injury to Daniel Ogwuru, they have been short of numbers in that position, so the academy staff moved Duffy up into that striker position. In the last game against Middlesbrough, he played up there alongside Errol Mundle-Smith.
This was far from the case in his early academy days when Joe played in a deeper position and was seen more as a natural box-to-box midfielder. His ‘promotion’ to more advanced positions highlights the technical quality he possesses.
The game against Middlesbrough carried some significance for Duffy as the attacking midfielder managed to hit a notable milestone – scoring ten goals for the season – with Aboh being the only other player to reach that target so far. Also, Duffy has contributed with two assists, taking his goal contribution tally to 12 with still a quarter of the season left.
