Another tale… this one of two sporting directors
As interminably annoying as international breaks are, they do at least offer the time and space to take stock of where we are, how we got there, and what the possibilities are going forward.
Handy really when you have Norwich City-related web pages to fill and no domestic matches to write about, albeit a certain former sporting director did his best to offer up a talking point (more on that later).
For all Championship, international breaks also offer respite from the breathless Saturday-Wednesday-Saturday grind that seems to intensify in the second half of the season and buys time for those players who have been playing with, or are recovering from, injury.
So, from a City viewpoint, where are we" Well? sixth.
How did we get here" Hmm? via a long and winding road.
Our possibilities going forward" Blimey? now there?s a question.
I partly jest, of course, other than we are, without question, in sixth place, but concerning how we ended up there and with a 50/50-ish chance of making it into the playoffs, there is more to it than the title of a classic song by The Beatles.
The first thing to say is, if we do end up in sixth, that will be a good effort by all based on where we were in the autumn ? an outstanding one, in fact ? but would be by no means an over-achievement. The club?s stated aim is to be in the country?s top 26 and so, by definition, to fall outside the Championship?s top six would be considered a failure.
