Bazball, killer instinct and what we should wish for
It?s humbling to be part of the new rota for Martin Penney?s Monday slot.
I was going to start with a few words about him, but can?t improve on last week?s comment from Alex B:
?Martin is sadly missed and his insightful articles were a joy to read?.
Indeed. None of us can emulate Martin – but we?ll try to find our own Monday styles, with him in our thoughts.
While our respect for Martin couldn?t be clearer, questions still abound for our team.
At least they?re different questions from a couple of months ago; the sharp improvement in City?s form has raised our sights (as well as making Ben Knapper?s recent interview a lot easier).
But questions remain:
Are we good enough to make the playoffs"
What does the team need to do to convince us (and perhaps themselves)"
Do we even want to get promoted this season"
Statistically, there?s no doubt we?re in the playoff mix ? and we?ve got there through good results and form since the turn of the year.
Yet Saturday re-opened some of the doubts. I can?t help being in the camp of seeing Blackburn as two points lost rather than one gained.
It seems churlish to quibble with our February record of three wins and two draws. And yet, it feels like five wins were within our grasp had we gone for the jugular at QPR and Blackburn.
No one can say for sure that the boldness of Daniel Farke ? or Alex Neil in his promotion season ? would have brought us victory in those games. But it...
