CITY WOMEN: Herdman departs with an ‘invincible’ season still in sight
In terms of managerial dismissals, this must be one of the most shocking in recent memory.
Martin Herdman, the man who has overseen one of the best seasons City’s women’s team has ever had, was sacked on Tuesday evening.
An official statement from the club read: ?Following ongoing discussions with the club over the head coach role and its wider responsibilities a decision has been made to make a change at this stage.
?The Canaries currently sit in second position in the Division One South East table, with the club now working to appoint an interim replacement until the end of the season.
?Everybody at Norwich City would like to place on record its thanks to Martin for his work during his time at the club.?
While his future was never seemingly in doubt, it was strange that Herdman missed last week?s emphatic victory over Dussindale and Hellesdon Rovers without any explanation. Most of the interviews after the game made no reference to the manager?s absence.
Maybe, reading between the lines, one of the caveats for Herdman taking the role was to partner with the University of East Anglia, meaning he was the university’s football programme lead alongside his role at The Nest.
