MATCH REPORT: CITY 2, WEST BROM 0
Whisper it quietly. Very quietly. Yesterday afternoon at Carrow Road, a half-decent game of football broke out!
Last weekend at Hull, City pulled off a smash-and-grab raid ? sat deep, nicked two goals, and won. That game was characterized by how bad City were when they actually had possession ? pass after pass went astray. Yet we won. My reaction at the time was, ?How good could we be if we could actually pass the ball"?
Yesterday we got the first hint of that.
David Wagner made a small switch. Ben Gibson came back into the defence and Kenny McLean was restored to the midfield at the expense of Marcelino Nunez
West Brom began with a reasonably high press, dropping deeper though whenever City began to move forward in numbers. City were content to walk the ball out from the back and the early signs didn?t look promising as McLean ceded possession cheaply twice in quick succession.
West Brom were well prepared for City?s stifling tactics and were making a good effort at getting players between the lines of City players. Thomas-Asante found space but Gibson made a great last-ditch tackle, with the referee waving away the visitor?s penalty appeals.
It took until the 11th minute for the Canaries to move forward with any conviction, a neat move that ended up with a Gabriel Sara shot that was easy for Palmer in the West Brom goal.
Two minutes later though Palmer could do little. McLean burst forward before laying a through ball to Josh Sargent. The Ame...
