MATCH REPORT: CITY 4, WATFORD 2
As football games go, that was, as they say in these here parts, a rum?un.
It started with the team sheet. Wagner preferred Lungi Sorensen at centre-back to both Danny Batth and Grant Hanley. Once again, it was Ashley Barnes and Josh Sargent up front with Onel Hernandez earning a rare start in place of Christian Fassnacht.
City started on the front foot with Barnes and Sargent pressing high, forcing Hamer to shank kicks into the stands twice in quick succession. Watford came back, Jake Livermore making a worrying run through the City midfield, triggering Watford?s first period of sustained possession.
Then City took control with a succession of free-flowing moves. Watford were only using Rajovic to press the City back line and it was all too easy for Ben Gibson and Sorensen to split wide and bypass the attacker.
On 7 minutes, Gibson started a lovely move, playing the ball through to Borja Sainz in the middle of the pitch. The Spaniard burst forward before playing the ball to Dimi Giannoulis on the overlap. He played a good ball in but somehow Barnes miss-hit his shot, which ballooned towards the top corner where Hamer scrambled it out for a corner.
City continued to rack up the sweet moves, only let down by some mediocre crosses by both Hernandez and Jack Stacey on the right.
On 18 minutes, Kenny McLean played a lovely reverse pass to Sainz. His cross was cleared but came to Hernandez on the right. He stormed past Jamal Lewis befor...
