NORWICH CITY WOMEN: Seventh heaven for City as they progress in County Cup
We all know Norwich are good in front of goal, but I don?t think even the most die-hard fan could have predicted this.
After another week-long break, this time due to a waterlogged pitch postponing the WNL Division One South East fixture with Haywards Heath Town, the Canaries were back in action at The Nest in County Cup action against Dussindale and Hellesdon Rovers.
It?s a competition that this crop of players are familiar with, having triumphed against Mulbarton in the final of last year?s tournament at Carrow Road.
Despite being overwhelming favourites for the tie, City knew that they needed to be at their best to progress into the final four.
Head coach Martin Herdman was absent from the touchline for this fixture due to unforeseen circumstances, with his assistant taking his place in the dugout. We wish Martin all the best.
Any thoughts that Norwich may be distracted by having one eye on the league table were soon diminished as the hosts went ahead after only 10 minutes through Rachel Lawrence. The attacker, who had gone close previously, saw this effort fly into the back of the visitor?s net despite Dussindale?s keeper Tula Cole getting her fingertips to the shot.
Norwich almost doubled their lead immediately afterwards through Holly Kennard, who saw her effort rattle the post.
It was from this moment that we knew the contest would be one-way traffic.
