Red cards, Rotherham domination & S Club 5 – A review of the week that was
Well, those last seven days in NCFC world were eventful, to say the least?
A capitulation in the North-East after one of the most ludicrous red card decisions ever made by an EFL official, leading to yet another away loss – City?s ninth out of their 18 games on the road. Then sweeping aside the team rock bottom of the table with a unique goalscoring list I?ve named after a UK pop music group who were active before I was even born (albeit with two fewer members!).
So first of all, let?s go back to that Wednesday night in Middlesborough. The Canaries were all over their opponents and after a clever improvised finish by Ashley Barnes, it looked like they were finally going to get the precious away win that has eluded them throughout the majority of this season.
But Bobby Madley and Jonny Howson had other ideas?
Howson, once a much-admired Carrow Road fan favourite, felt the slightest bit of contact from Borja Sainz after committing a challenge worthy of a foul itself, and with ‘clever’ play-acting somehow convinced the Premier League referee to send off the Spanish winger.
As expected, it completely flipped the momentum of the game but the Canaries players left on the pitch could and should have reacted in a much better fashion. They lost any sense of composure and fell to a 3-1 defeat at the Riverside. It was an absolute disaster after the red card, and the mistakes we made were punished. After all, we never tend to do things the easy way.
