River End angst … Angus heroics … but City edge closer to the playoffs
It was never going to be the stroll some were expecting.
Having written the match preview and, in doing so, having done some light digging into what makes this iteration of the Robins tick, it became clear they were lively, well-organised, motivated, and, crucially, in form.
They didn’t disappoint and looked one of the best sides to grace Carrow Road this season.
The Canaries were always going to have to bring their A-game to win, but with Angus being man of the match by some distance, it was clear they didn’t. In the end, to emerge with a point and the gap to sixth still intact was as good as we could have hoped for.
It wasn’t, of course, the disaster that many in the Lower River End appeared to believe, but it was an afternoon where City were second best for large spells and lacked the zip and energy that has typified their performances of late.
It certainly didn’t warrant the boos that accompanied the half-time whistle. (Yes, really.)
The biggie of the day was that Hull didn’t win at Watford, and so, while Coventry still have those two games in hand – one is midweek against Hull – sixth place is still very much ours to lose, and fifth is still very much do-able.
In fairness to David Wagner, on this occasion, he did see the same game as the rest of us and, while he acknowledged there was no drop-off in commitment or desire, he did note the lack of energy and zip that set this performance aside from tho...
