The Preview – Middlesbrough v Norwich City
After beating Boro on that never-to-be-forgotten afternoon in May 2015, City went on to win their next five contests against them, including that memorable 1-0 Carrow Road win in September 2018 that kickstarted Daniel Farke?s first Championship-winning season.
You know the one. The one that produced the infamous ‘yous is sh1te” YouTube clip when a frustrated (and infuriated) Boro fan told anyone who would listen that we wouldn’t win another game that season.
We could, at the time, have justifiably described ourselves as Boro?s ?bogey team?. An unbeaten run against the Teessiders was extended to seven when we played out a goalless draw at Carrow Road in the behind-closed-doors Championship season of 2020-21, but all good things come to an end and since then, minus Farke’s magic touch, it’s been three straight defeats. Miserable ones at that.
The most recent was a 2-1 home loss amid David Wagner?s bleak mid-autumn but most painful of all was the 5-1 thumping at the Riverside last April, which put to bed once and for all any daft notions we had around sneaking into the playoffs. What made that one doubly painful was that, aside from stinking the place out, Aaron Ramsey ? once on loan in this parish ? scored against us and then gave it the big ‘un.
It was a defeat that epitomised the Class of 2023 ? fragile and lily-livered ? but while there are more games of the season left this time around (eleven compared to five) and so defea...
