The Preview – Norwich City v West Brom
I?ll admit, 2024 has started better than I thought it would.
Southampton, Hull City, West Brom, Leeds, Coventry. The start to the year couldn?t be more difficult and yet, we have come out of the first two fixtures with four points from an available six and are only two points off the top six.
I won?t mince my words, the encounter with Russell Martin?s side was a snore-fest, and one which the visitors controlled for the most part. Usually conceding in the second half is our death sentence, so to fight our way back into the match, especially with the returning Josh Sargent netting, was a positive sign, even if the game itself was a slog.
Then, following in the pattern of the vast majority to games this season, our visit to Humberside was the Jonny Rowe show again. His sumptuous finish earned praise from many, and rightly so. And, although I?m not his biggest fan, it was nice seeing Onel Hernandez get another assist in quick succession, setting up for Christian Fassnacht to tap in from close range, having assisted Ashley Barnes against Bristol Rovers at Carrow Road.
Despite our triumphant result against, Hull however, there wasn?t too much joyous celebration among Norwich fans it seems. Scrolling through Twitter (yes I still refuse to call it ?X?) after the game it became clear that fans were happy with the result, but weren?t getting carried away with our close proximity to the play-offs … not seriously anyway.
