There is one fairly simple route out of the current impasse…
As an organisation there is one thing more dangerous than being in the middle of a communications crisis? and that is not realising you?re in a middle of a communications crisis.
And that?s where I think Norwich City find themselves now. It seems the club has become addicted to bad PR.
Many people question whether PR really matters, but the last few years of poor communication strategy at Norwich City football club have clearly shown that it matters tremendously.
The latest football club PR ?misstep? was David Wagner telling a section of the fans who booed his substitutions to stay home. It was a ludicrous thing to say at any stage of the season but on the week of season ticket renewals… it?s beyond parody.
I could write a thesis on how NCFC has been producing a masterclass in bad PR. In my view, there were signs of it happening higher up the Carrow Road food chain even when we were winning under Daniel Farke, but success on the field is great at masking off-the-field failings.
The fact is the majority of fans could map out Norwich?s terrible PR and, in a way, that?s the big problem. It?s been staring everyone in the face and everyone can see it apart from the people who have the ability to stop it. Either they don?t know it?s happening or don?t know how to stop it.
So, rather than list a long history of Norwich City FC PR misdemeanours, I thought it might be more constructive to look at some very simple solutions.
Let?s go back a few year...
