The first leg between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals was dead even ? not just in scoreline, but in nearly every metric. The two teams exchanged spells of control while splitting possession. The xG: nearly level. There is little that separates these two ? at least for now.
Perhaps that?s surprising, given Real Madrid are league champions and are favourites to get to the Champions League final, but, Bayern deserve respect. They are the type of team that can raise their ceiling on big nights like these. Both Bayern and Real have the ability to beat anyone regardless of their current form. Bayern also have the world?s best striker, devastating wingers, one of the greatest goalkeepers who?s ever lived, and a tactician known for making great in-game adjustments. Thomas Tuchel played some of his cards early. The first wave of the game saw Bayern press aggressively, pin Real Madrid, and man-mark Toni Kroos on the ball.
