Manager signs new contract and puts move back on shelf – Pauses ambitions after Sunderland and Swansea City
Before Michael Beale was appointed as Sunderland manager, a couple of lesser known names were linked with the job at the Stadium of Light.
One of those was Elfsborg manager Jimmy Thelin, who was said to have travelled to England to hold talks with the Black Cats after also being linked with Swansea City.
Unfortunately for him, Sunderland decided to go with someone with experience in the local leagues, which has led the Swede to stay put and commit to his current club, as reported by Sportbladet.
They explain that Thelin was also recently a favourite for the Sweden national team job, and had been a ?hot name? in the trainer market. However, despite the interest from Sunderland and Swansea, he has ?instead chosen to sign a new contract with Elfsborg until the 2026 season?.
It?s added that he also ?visited? Swansea City as part of his tour of potential next jobs, as well as KVC Westerlo in Belgium.
None of those came to anything, and he will now continue his good work at Elfsborg in his hoe country.
