‘I am pretty hard on them’ – Postecoglou reveals why he is so ‘proud’ of Spurs squad this year
Ange Postecoglou has said that while he did not want to waste this season and thus set the objectives quite high, he is proud of the effort that his players have put in this campaign, particularly given the relative inexperience of the squad.
If you had told most Spurs fans before the start of the season that they would be in with a shot of finishing in the top four with six games left to go in the season, most would have bitten your hand off.
The club was in complete shambles last summer after stumbling to an eight-place finish last season and subsequently losing their record goalscorer, Harry Kane.
However, Postecoglou was careful not to put a limit on Spurs’ ambitions right from day one, with the Australian even making it clear on multiple occasions that he has his eye on the big prize (One Football).
In some ways, the 58-year-old is perhaps a victim of his own early success at Tottenham and he has now insisted that he is proud of what his players have produced, especially given that a number of them are in their debut Premier League season.
Postecoglou told Football.London: “I am proud because to be honest, I am pretty hard on them.
“People ask whether I’d have taken fifth at the start of the year. A lot of people would have, and when I think of the challenges I?ve put to this group of players – a lot of them in the Premier League for the first time or still very young in age or not having that sort of hard experie...
