Benjamin Mendy was lucky to escape a red card in Manchester City’s win over Tottenham after aiming a punch at Erik Lamela.
Riyad Mahrez’s early goal in the first half was enough for Pep Guardiola’s side to secure victory at Wembley on Monday evening.
But the Premier League champions could have been reduced to 10 men in injury time after Mendy lashed out at Lamela.
The incident occurred in the 92nd minute as Mendy and Lamela chased a long ball forwards.
Mendy was able to get his body in the way of Lamela as the Argentine attempted to win the ball and Aymeric Laporte made the clearance.

Lamela appeared to catch Mendy on the head as they battled for the ball, but after it was cleared the City left-back lashed out at the Tottenham midfielder.
Mendy’s wild swing missed Lamela but the incident occurred right in front of the assistant referee, who took no action.
Lamela, meanwhile, missed an excellent chance in the second half to score an equaliser for Tottenham but the ball bobbled just before he connected with the ball.
