Sky Sports presenter Dave Jones has revealed that VAR did check the alleged foul on Dejan Kulusevski in the build-up to Bukayo Saka’s goal but concluded that it was only ‘minimal contact’.

The incident occurred at a crucial time, with Tottenham pushing on for an equliser, with Arsenal desperately hanging on to the lead after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s own goal on 15 minutes had put them ahead.

Kulusevski played a one-two in the Gunners’ box but appeared to be clipped as he was about to strike the ball but Micahel Oliver waved away the protests.

A couple of passes later, Saka was through on the Spurs goal, with the winger going past Ben Davies with ease and slotting the ball into the corner.

The Tottenham players and the fans were fuming at the referee’s decision to ignore their penalty shout but VAR did not intervene at the time.

According to Jones, VAR’s assessment of the incident was that the contact was not enough to bring Kulusevski down.

He told Sky Sports (28/04/24) about the alleged foul on the Swede: “It was checked. VAR said minimal contact.”
