Manchester United eyeing surprise swoop to re-sign Sam Johnstone if Dean Henderson or David de Gea depart

Manchester United are reportedly keen on re-signing their former goalkeeper Sam Johnstone if Dean Henderson or David de Gea leave Old Trafford this summer.
The 28-year-old came through United’s academy but failed to make a single first-team appearance for the club and after multiple loan moves, was sold to West Brom in 2018.
Johnstone is now impressing for the relegation-threatened Baggies with his form earning him a maiden senior England call-up for March’s World Cup qualifiers.

United’s two primary stoppers, De Gea and Henderson, have been battling to be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s No.1 this season, with the latter currently occupying the spot.
De Gea, who joined United back in 2011 and has been recently linked with an exit from Old Trafford, missed several games last month to be present at the birth of his first child.
Henderson has made the most of his opportunity to step in with three clean sheets in his last four league games.
And according to The Sun, United are ready to bring Johnstone back to the club should De Gea or Henderson depart in the next transfer window.
The report states that the West Brom ‘keeper could be tempted by the move with his current contract due to expire in the summer of 2022.
